Cruising, Quilting and Teaching
January was a very special month for my husband and I! We spent 17 days on a wonderful Hawaiian cruise while I taught quilting and we enjoyed the sights and seas.
Our trip was with World of Quilts Travel hosted by Deb Roberts on Holland America's award-winning Koningsdam. It's a beautiful, spacious ship with lots of dining and entertainment options. We boarded in San Diego, settled in and were all ready for cruising and quilting.
We were so well cared for! There was a sweet note with an orchid on our bed one day and I loved the "towel animal sculptures" left in our stateroom.
We were very glad to be able to take time for the excursion to visit the USS Arizona Memorial near Oahu. It's a beautifully done memorial and a very sobering experience.
The closer we got, the quieter the boatload of people became as we all thought of our appreciation for those who sacrificed their lives for our country.
I love teaching and, although eight workshops was a lot, I really loved meeting quilters from all over the USA and Canada. We even became new friends with two wonderful women from Canada shown above with my husband, David. They look a little tired from a day of sightseeing, but we were all very happy to get off the ship and enjoy some time together.
With eight workshops to teach, most of my time was spent in the classrooms. My students were fabulous and sewed up beautiful quilt tops during their class time. It was a joy to see them learning new techniques and enjoying the creative art of quilting. All sewn from patterns I've designed! Some of the quilt patterns I taught are above: Zen, Spinning Stars and Usagi. You can click here to view the patterns.
Look at that smile! This happy quilter loved the Labyrinth quilt she made. Click here to see the pattern.
Made from one of the kits students could pre-order from me, this Geese in the Lillies quilt was just spectacular! The fabrics are all from my Moda Fabrics Shibori collections. You can see the fabrics by clicking here and the pattern by clicking here.
Also made from one of my pre-ordered kits, this is Carpenter's Star in gorgeous batiks with it's very pleased creator! Click here to view the Carpenter's Star pattern.
You may not be heading out on a cruise this Spring, but if you'd like to see the Quilt Kits I have available for you, click here. You can always cruise right into your sewing room to quilt!
